KEALS CUP - BATTLE OF THE TRADES
Jason Keals and Peter Bond met years ago in Karratha, Western Australia. They instantly connected and became inseparable. They trained together, played footy together, and created many memories that will last a lifetime as Jason had that effect on people. However, five years ago, Jason's mental health took a turn for the worse.
He battled his inner demons, and despite his external strength, he felt increasingly isolated. Tragically, Jason took his own life, which devastated everyone who knew him, including his family and young son, Cooper. This heart-breaking loss has opened Peter's eyes to the alarming reality of men's mental health, particularly among tradesmen. Approximately 9 Australians die by suicide every day, with a staggering 75% of them being males.
To honour Jason's memory and support his family, YTB Plumbing created the 'Keals Cup', a monumental fundraiser dedicated to raising awareness around mental health, setting a legacy for Kealsy, and helping to support Cooper's future. The event consisted of teams from various trades competing head to head in a range of exciting challenges.
But the Keals Cup was more than just a day of friendly competition. There was an incredible line up of guest speakers, delicious food, refreshing drinks, and thrilling raffles as a celebration of unity, resilience, and a powerful reminder that together we can make a difference.
The event successfully raised $36,000 for the cause, exceeding the original target of $30,000.
